Youth Mentor

Flexible role • Bristol & surrounding areas • Apply by form

You don’t need a sports degree —
just a passion for young people.

About Switch Mentoring

Switch Mentoring is a Bristol-based community organisation empowering people to reach their potential through one-to-one and small-group mentoring for young people. We work in schools, community settings and on referral, building trusted relationships that help young people grow in confidence, resilience and direction.

Our mentors come from all walks of life. Sport is part of what we do — but so are music, art, the outdoors, conversation and just turning up consistently. What unites our team is the belief that every young person deserves an adult who genuinely sees them.

The Role

We’re looking for warm, dependable people to join our mentoring team as Youth Mentors. You’ll work with young people aged roughly 8–18 across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath — in schools, community settings, and out in the community.

This is a flexible role designed to fit around your life. We offer zero-hours, part-time and full-time options so you can choose what suits you. Whether you can give us a couple of hours a week or want to build toward something larger, we want to hear from you.

Pay £12.71 – £13.75 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract Temporary, until 17 July 2026
Office Staple Hill, Bristol

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need a degree, a sports background, or specific qualifications. What you do need is a real interest in young people and the patience to build trust slowly. We welcome applications from people with backgrounds in music, art, culture, outdoor pursuits, community work — or none of the above. If you’re someone young people warm to, we want to talk.

Essential

  • A genuine passion for working with young people and a belief in their potential
  • Strong relationship-building skills — the ability to be calm, consistent and trustworthy
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (for travel between sites)
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and complete safeguarding training

Desirable

  • Previous youth work, mentoring, coaching or teaching experience
  • Background in sport, music, art, the outdoors or creative practice you can share with young people
  • First aid qualification (or willingness to gain one)
  • Experience working with young people who face challenges with mental health, behaviour or engagement at school

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group mentoring sessions with young people
  • Build trusting, boundaried relationships with mentees and their families
  • Keep simple, accurate session records to help us evidence impact
  • Liaise with schools, parents and referrers as part of the wider support network around each young person
  • Take part in team meetings, supervision and ongoing safeguarding training

Why Join Switch Mentoring?

  • Truly flexible hours — design your week around your life
  • Make a measurable difference to young people’s lives in your community
  • Join a supportive team that values your background, whatever it is
  • Ongoing training, supervision and the chance to grow with us

How to Apply

We don’t accept CVs. We use a short application form so every applicant is considered on the same criteria — this is part of our commitment to safer recruitment.

To request an application form, or for a quick informal chat about the role first, email us at hello@switchrugby.com.

Closing date for applications: Friday, 5th June 2026.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or socio-economic background. If you need any adjustments to the application or interview process, please let us know.
